MLB The Show 26 New Threads Trade Deadline: How to Get 99 Tarik Skubal

The New Threads Trade Deadline Program gives you a free 99 overall Tarik Skubal at 100 program points. You can get there without buying cards, playing online, completing the collection or repeating the Mini Seasons mission.

The clean no-purchase route is 10 moments for 50 points, followed by all six standard New Threads missions for the other 50. Knock out the moments first so you have five program cards ready to stack in your lineup and pitching staff.

Quick answer: Finish all 10 moments. Then earn 5,000 PXP, 28 total bases, 13 hits and seven innings with New Threads cards in an eligible offline mode. The three PXP missions stack, bringing that route to exactly 100 points.

San Diego Studio released the New Threads Trade Deadline Program on Friday, Aug. 7. The drop follows the real deadline moves, including Skubal's trade to the Dodgers. He arrived in Los Angeles as the two-time reigning AL Cy Young Award winner, with a 2.79 ERA and 116 strikeouts in 96 2/3 innings this season. The Associated Press has the trade details.

How to finish the New Threads Trade Deadline Program

Start with the moments. Each one is worth five points, so the full set gets you halfway through the program and unlocks A.J. Minter, Daulton Varsho, Ryan Zeferjahn, Liam Hicks and Luis Castillo.

Load those five cards into an eligible squad before starting the standard missions. Castillo can handle the innings, Minter and Zeferjahn give you bullpen options, and Varsho and Hicks begin the hitting grind. Add Luke Weaver, Arjun Nimmala, Taylor Ward and Jo Adell as they come off the program path.

The six standard missions are:

The PXP checkpoints are cumulative. Reaching 5,000 PXP clears the 1,000 and 3,000 checkpoints along the way, so there is no separate grind for those 20 points.

These missions count in Ranked, Co-op, Battle Royale, Events, Weekend Classic, Play vs CPU, Mini Seasons, Conquest and Diamond Quest. If you want to stay offline, use whichever eligible mode already gives you something else to work on. Actual completion time depends on your results, and the available data does not support a reliable game or time estimate.

The exact 100-point route

1. Complete all 10 moments for 50 points.
2. Put every unlocked New Threads card into your squad.
3. Finish the 5,000 PXP, 28 total bases, 13 hits and seven innings requirements.
4. Claim 99 Tarik Skubal at 100 points.

That route requires no market cards. It also leaves the collection task, multiplayer missions and repeatable 9,000-PXP Mini Seasons mission untouched.

Online players have another exact 50-point block available after the moments: 5,000 multiplayer PXP, four extra-base hits, one home run and three strikeouts with New Threads relief or closing pitchers. Those missions only count in Ranked, Co-op, Battle Royale, Events and Weekend Classic. Play vs Friend and Casual do not count.

There are also ten bonus missions worth five points each for earning 500 PXP with any version of Kevin Gausman, Freddy Peralta, Clay Holmes, Dustin May, Luis García Jr., Zyhir Hope, Tarik Skubal, Luis Arráez, José Soriano or Adley Rutschman. Treat those as shortcuts if you already own a useful version. They are not part of the no-purchase route.

Every reward on the program path

The path mixes 10 player cards with XP, standard packs and two Deluxe Trade Deadline packs. Drag it sideways to see the unlock order and the card art at each checkpoint.

The program cards that stand out on paper

Skubal finishes with 99 velocity, 99 control and 99 break, backed by 117 pitching clutch, 100 H/9 and 102 stamina. His 92 K/9 is less imposing than the three headline pitching ratings, but this is still a free 99 starter with no collection attached.

Jo Adell brings 125 power against right-handed pitching, 81 speed and eligibility across all three outfield spots. The tradeoff on the card screen is 88 contact against righties and 72 fielding.

Luke Weaver is the bullpen card to check at 60 points. He has 125 pitching clutch, 114 H/9, 99 control and 99 break. Those attributes are a data read, not a claim about his delivery or how he performs online.

For lineup flexibility, Arjun Nimmala covers shortstop, second base, third base and center field, while Taylor Ward has 124 contact against righties and 110 against lefties. You can compare all 28 cards on the New Threads series page.

The Adley collection is a separate decision

The New Threads Trade Deadline Collection asks for 25 of the 27 cards on its current eligible list. Its rewards are:

The two early rewards feed back into the collection. From zero, the path works like this:

1. Finish the program and collect its 10 cards to unlock Luis Arráez.
2. Collect Arráez, then add seven other eligible cards to reach 18 and unlock José Soriano.
3. Collect Soriano, then add six more eligible cards to reach 25 and unlock Adley.

That means a player starting from zero needs the 10 program cards plus 13 additional eligible cards, not 15. Finish the free program before buying anything.

Do not buy an older March New Threads card just because it shares the series name. The official collection's current 27-item list is the eligibility rule, and that list contains the Aug. 7 Trade Deadline cards.

What the market-only route cost at launch

At 2:47 p.m. ET on Aug. 8, the lowest Buy Now total found for the 13 additional sellable cards was 177,926 Stubs. This is a market-only supplement from a zero-card starting point. It is not a permanent price, and cards earned from packs or other content would reduce what you need to spend.

The current calculation leaves out Luis García Jr. at 41,199 and Dustin May at 67,449, the two highest Buy Now prices among the 15 sellable options at that snapshot. Since the collection allows two skips, those were the expensive cards to leave uncollected at that moment.

Prices will move as more Deluxe Trade Deadline packs enter circulation. Check the live collection page before locking anything in. Once collected, a card becomes No Sell.

What is in the Trade Deadline pack?

The current Trade Deadline pack page contains 10 New Threads cards: four hitters and six pitchers.

Brooks Raley has the strongest position-specific formula score among the pack relievers in the current theSHOWBASE data, led by 125 H/9, 114 K/9 and 99 break. Curtis Mead has the highest designated-hitter formula score in the pack, with 105 power against righties and 109 against lefties. Formula scores compare card attributes. They are not hands-on reviews.

We are not making an expected-value call on the pack. That calculation needs verified pack cost, odds, choice structure, current card pool and prices. Buying singles is easier to price. The right move depends on how many eligible cards you already have and how aggressively you want Adley.

What should you do first?

If Skubal is the target, complete the moments and standard missions. Stop at 100 points and keep your Stubs.

If Adley is the target, finish the program before touching the market, collect Arráez and Soriano as soon as their thresholds open, then price the remaining six-card step. The collection was close to 178,000 Stubs from zero on the first full day, even after using every free program card and both collection rewards.

The one-point collection task inside the program is skippable. Do not turn an exact free route into a six-figure lock-in for one extra program point.
